Finalists for Okanagan Housing Awards of Excellence Announced: Industry’s Best Recognized

December 5, 2022 - Kelowna, B.C. – The Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Central Okanagan (CHBA-CO) is pleased to announce the finalists for the 30th Annual Okanagan Housing Awards. The Okanagan Housing Awards celebrate the best projects of the year in new home construction, residential renovation, and interior design.

One doesn’t have to look far locally to see how new homes in the region are evolving, with multiple units popping up where a single-family home once stood. While the awards continue to showcase high-end custom homes, there has been an increase in energy efficient projects as well as denser forms of infill housing such as townhomes and low-rise buildings.

“The way we think about residential construction is changing. Missing middle housing and energy efficiency are top of mind for current and aspiring homeowners,” says Darren Witt, CHBA-CO President. “While the awards have always showcased impressive custom homes, I’m particularly impressed by those that have gone above and beyond in energy efficiency and density-based construction. These are truly the homes of the future.”

“Residential construction is the economic engine of our region.” says Daniel Winer, CHBA-CO Executive Officer. “It’s been a banner year for the home building industry across the Central Okanagan. These awards are a chance to celebrate the hard work of our local home builders, and to showcase the future of housing for the community.”

Finalists and winners are first reviewed by a group of national-award-winning peers locally –– as well as by a panel of eight award-winning builders from across Canada.

This year’s Finalists are headlined by AuthenTech Homes (7 nominations) and their Wilden Living Lab project. Dilworth Homes (8), based in Kelowna, as well as Keith Dahlen Construction (5) from Vernon are also among the top candidates. Interior Design companies Isabey Interiors (8) and MATERIA Interior Design Studio (5) have also been highlighted for their work. On the supplier side, local cabinet manufacturers Westwood Fine Cabinetry (6) led the way.

“From labour to material shortages, builders across Canada have navigated their way through one of the busiest building seasons of the last several years,” said CHBA CEO Kevin Lee. “The Okanagan Housing Awards recognize not only beautifully completed projects, but also the resiliency of the residential construction industry. They are wonderfully representative of the variety of homes we have in Canada, including the implementation of leading construction techniques for greater efficiency.”

Now in their 30th year, the annual Okanagan Housing Awards of Excellence will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2023.
